Blood in Urine

Aside from back pain; cloudy, smelly urine; and horrible pain in the back and abdomen, you may also see changes in the color of your urine from kidney stones. Discolored urine is one of the most striking changes people notice, since suddenly see red, pink, or light brown in the bowl is a shock.

This is caused by blood. As the stone gets larger and starts blocking the urethra, it can damage the tissues, resulting in blood that tinges the urine. This condition is called hematuria.

Since this is usually about the time that the kidney stone has become lodged in the urethra and is scraping the sides, you will also be in intense discomfort during this time. So if you have blood in your urine and are doubled over in pain, now is the time to call a doctor or get medical care.
