Pungent Urine
People who suffer from kidney stones usually notice that their urine starts to look and smell different. The odor will be far more pungent and unpleasant. While it is completely normal for urine to sometimes smell bitter, you cannot mistake the sharp, stinging scent of a kidney stone. The odor, after all, is cause by the heightened concentration of toxins and chemicals in the urine.
Remember, the kidneys play a major role in cleaning chemicals and toxins from the body. Most of these substances are eliminated through urine. When the kidneys are impaired by something like kidney stones, the toxins will stick around longer and start to crystallize. That is what starts to form the core of kidney stones.
Then, as they start to break up and travel through the urinary tract, you smell the change.
