Diagnosis
As mentioned above, plantar fasciitis is best diagnosed by a foot and ankle surgeon. The surgeon usually starts diagnosis by checking a patient’s medical history. He/she will then examine your foot ruling out all causes of heel pain besides plantar fasciitis.
Diagnosis includes a physical examination of the heel as well as imaging studies like x-rays among other imaging modalities used to differentiate the type of heel pain. In some cases, heel spurs may be discovered in patients suffering from plantar fasciitis. Although this is possible, it is rarely the source of pain.
