Signs & Symptoms of a Kidney Infection

Bloody Urine

Once a kidney infection starts to worsen and spread, it’s not uncommon for patients to see tinges of blood or pus in their urine. Blood can appear in urine when kidney function is disrupted. Healthily functioning kidneys will filter toxins from the blood, producing urine. During infections, though, blood will get stuck in the kidneys and filtered out, causing pinkish urine or the presence of clots and clouding.

A presence of red blood cells in the urine is known as hematuria, and it is a typical symptom in both urinary tract infections and kidney infections. Upon this development, you move beyond a less severe infection into full-blown pyelonephritis and may require intense medical care.
