Mental Confusion
When the kidneys cannot function properly, they cannot complete their job of eliminating toxins and waste from the body through urine. These toxins, paired with an imbalance of hormones, can cause disorientation and confusion. Although this symptom is dominant in the elderly population, it can happen to anyone. In fact, confusion is one of the few symptoms that most patients end up experiencing.
However, despite the frequency of kidney infection sufferers developing mental confusion, most doctors consider it a common side effect of aging and cognitive decline, or an early indicator of dementia. If you feel dizzy, struggle with balance, and are irritable, along with bouts of disorientation, you could be suffering from a kidney infection.
