When To See A Doctor

If you become concerned about your lack of sexual desire for your partner or in other facets of life, you can always speak to a doctor. The cause and solution may be more simple than imagined—as long as you discuss what is happening with a medical professional.

Diagnosis

Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is diagnosed once you have gone to a medical professional and they see your frequent lack of sexual need, thoughts, and libido as unnatural and distressing. Your doctor will look for the potential reasons why your sex drive is not as high as you would like it to be, and they will offer ways to help increase your libido.

During your appointment with your doctor, you will have to answer questions about your medical and sexual history. The doctor may also perform the following examinations:

• Pelvic exams to check for any physical signs of what could be contributing to decreased sexual desire. Some issues may include thinning genital tissue, painful spots, and vaginal dryness.

• Recommend tests, such as blood tests, which will be used to check your hormone levels, such as estrogen and thyroid hormone levels, as well as any signs of diabetes, liver disorders, and high cholesterol.

• Recommend a specialist. Sometimes, the reasons for low libido are not entirely medical and therefore your general physician may not always be able to help. However, they can refer you do a counselor or a therapist who can evaluate your mental and emotional health to see if that is cause of your low sex drive.
