Low Sex Drive In Women

Medications

Your doctor will potentially want to review the medications you are on, if applicable, to see if any of the prescriptions are what is causing the drop in sexual desire. Many antidepressants, such as Paxil, Prozac, Sarafem, and others are known to lower your sex drive. Sometimes this can be remedied by switching to another antidepressant known as Wellbutrin SR or Wellbutrin XL. Be sure to learn more about the product before opting to switch.

In conjunction with sex counseling, your doctor might opt to provide you with a medication known as flibanserin (Addyi) to raise your libido. The drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for pre-menopausal women who are also suffering from hypoactive sexual desire disorder. The pill is taken once per day in the evening before bedtime. Side effects of Addyi include dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, and fatigue. You should not take fluconazole (Diflucan), a medication for yeast infection, or drink alcohol while on flibanserin.
