Pneumonia: Never Minor

Children and the elderly are at risk of developing complications from pneumonia. In fact, in 2015, 922,000 children worldwide died from pneumonia.

Like the flu, there are a couple types of pneumonia. The first kind, community-acquired pneumonia, is a bacterial infection from bacteria, viruses, or even fungus. As the name suggests, it is contracted from a public setting. Another kind of pneumonia, hospital-acquired pneumonia, is serious, since it can be antibiotic resistant. Lastly, there’s aspiration pneumonia, which is the result of inhaling saliva, liquid, food, or vomit into the lungs.
