Risky and Impulsive Behaviors

Individuals with borderline personality disorder will often exhibit impulsive behaviors, including:

• Having promiscuous and unprotected sex

• Binge eating

• Abusing alcohol and illegal drugs

• Breaking the law, such as shoplifting

• Reckless driving

• Gambling

• Spending sprees

• Quitting a job without any warning

• Cutting off relationships that were going well

• and more.

Although these behaviors make the individual feel better during the course of the action, they often find themselves feeling worse and in less than ideal situations afterwards. Such risky behaviors will undoubtedly cause tension between the individual and their friends and family as well, which is another reason why relationships are often unstable.
